Remembering childhood friends

I miss my childhood friends. I had few close school friends. We played together and had fun together.

As we moved ahead in life. I entered into professional college and gradually lost contact with my friends.

In those days there were no personal mobile phones, no email. Whenever i needed friends to play, I would go searching for them. If they were not at home or they were busy then I would be saddened.

Today, I am missing them as I am not aware of what they are doing.

Today I have all the technological advances, yet so few friends. I am very much busy in my professional life and family responsibilities.

Today’s friends have no time to respond to my messages. At times I feel ignored.

I remember one example of great friendship mentioned in the scripture.

1 Samuel 18:1 NASBS
Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.

Here is a great friendship being nurtured between David, a common man but future king and Jonathan the heir to the throne.

Jonathan greatly loved David as his soul. Jonathan as a token of his friendship gave his favourite robe and set of armour to David. This is an example of strong selfless love between two great close friends.

I am yet to love someone to such an extent. May the Lord Jesus help us to love our friends as he has loved us and gave himself so full and so free.

The friendship of Jonathan and David has had great impact on my life. I am amazed with their friendship. I feel today there is a greater need to develop such kind of lasting friendships.
