“How great thou art” is a musical master piece and timeless melodious hymn. It is favourite of mine and I am sure that it will be yours as well.
It is a song of a soul who is rejoicing in the saviour. It is an adoration dedicated to Lord. I will not go into the history of this song. If someone is interested that person can find details on the net.
When we sing this song, this song takes us through valleys and mountains. It takes us through the natural beauty. Although much of the natural beauty is lost to the Urbanization.
It is possible that after we finish singing this song we go back home. Often we tend to forget about this song and sing our routine boring monotonous life songs. For example, we may think and talk about our problems to such extent that we have no time to sing a song.
Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
We are commanded to sing and make melodies. I know you don’t know musical instruments, I am also equally ignorant of music. But God has placed a new song in our hearts. Do you know the title of that song?
Psalm 32:7 You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
We are given songs of deliverance. We are given songs of salvation, praise, etc. There are many types of spiritual songs we could sing.
However, when things don’t work out as per our expectations, we begin to mourn. This is called song of mourning. Sometimes we are so frustrated and become grumpy. We sing songs of grumbling.
Psalm 84:2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
May our souls find joy in singing to the living God. There are many reasons to sing a song.
Psalm 30:12 That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Let’s pray to the Lord God, not to allow us to be silent but to sing and dance to the Lord. Choice is yours dear friend.
You can choose to sing a song of praise to God or you can continue to sing the sad songs of discontentment.
May the good Lord help us and fill us with his words so that we will continue to sojourn our spiritual path with songs of salvation to everyone around us.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
