The true Practice of preaching

Do you think preaching is easy? No not at all. I believe that preaching is a gift freely distributed by God according to his divine providence.

We can get training on how to preach but only God can truly bless the preaching ministry. If you are a preacher, God bless you and your ministry.

So practice of preaching is a complex topic and I leave it for the seminarians to deliberate on it.

But this is not my primary topic of discussion. I would like to go little beyond preaching. I would like to draw your attention to practicing what we preach. Yes, you ready it precisely.

I would like to write about, practicing what we have been preaching. In the beginning let me begin with a scripture quote.

Acts 1:1 The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach.

This is a most profound statement by Dr Luke. He summarized whole life and ministry of Lord Jesus Christ in this statement.

There is a wonderful sequence mentioned in this quote. Jesus began to do then to teach.

Jesus Christ practiced before He preached. He preached what he followed.

The point I would like to drive in is that we have to focus on deliberately practicing before even thinking of preaching it to someone else.

For example, if I want other person to help a poor man sacrificially then before I preach this I should be practicing it secretly and wholeheartedly and without grudgingly.

Luke 11:46 But He said, “Woe to you lawyers as well! For you weigh men down with burdens hard to bear, while you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

The scribes during the time of Jesus, laid down many laws which burdened people but they themselves never followed those laws seriously. They would not be willing to help others to carry their burdens.

Today we need balanced preaching preceded by practice. Let us not burden our audience by giving them responsibilities which we find very difficult to carry out.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I come to you as I am. Help me to practice before preaching. Let my life speak more louder than my words. I pray this in the most precious name of Lord Jesus Christ.
