The servant of God
Moses is one the well known prophets mentioned in the Holy Bible. He was delegated responsibility to lead the people of Israel out of slavery in Egypt.
Moses had a very close walk with God. God spoke with Moses directly face to face. One day Moses made an unusual request to God. The request was “Show me your glory.”
Exodus 33:18 NASBS
Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
Show me your glory
Moses’ request was that God should show him His face to Moses. It’s almost impossible for any human to survive in the manifest presence of Holy God.
Exodus 33:19 NASBS
And He said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.”
Surprisingly, God obliged to this request because God had great respect for his most trusted servant. God agreed to allow Moses to have a glimpse of His beauty.
Exodus 33:20 NASBS
But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!”
God informed Moses about the dangers of seeing God’s face. No human being can survive after face to face encounter with living God.
Exodus 33:21-23 NASBS
Then the LORD said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”
God solved the issue of safety of Moses. God will protect Moses with his own gracious and mighty hand ✋ and Moses will be able to see God’s back but he won’t be able to see God’s face. What a magnificent sight it must have been to see God’s glory passing by.
Seeking God’s glory
Have you ever thought of asking God to show you his glory? Yes many times I sought God’s face. He is has full authority to choose whom he will reveal himself. God has never manifested his glory visibly but in my heart I have experienced his glory time and again.
May we have a fresh glimpse of God’s glory in our daily lives. This encounter of Moses with God transformed him forever.
The suggested hymn to listen to is “Rock of ages cleft for me.” Please click on the link. Enjoy the wonderful melody which reminds us that our God is the rock which provides us shelter and refuge.
God bless you all my dear friends.
