The tool
Fire 🔥is a powerful tool with tremendous amount of power to make and break. Fire has capabilities to melt and soften the toughest part of a hard metal. It is also used to purify the metal. It can destroy every trace of impurities within the metals.
The skill
The black Smith works with raw iron and transforms it into a weapon of war. This transformation is a laborious exercise. A seasoned black Smith is skilled in transforming any shapeless iron into a beautiful sharp knife or any other weapon.
The process
The forging process begins with a raw iron being cast into a hot furnace. The high temperature of this furnace will turn the black iron into red hot metal. It is just heated enough to mould it into a desired shape. The hot iron is conducive to change in shape which was not possible with cold iron.
The product
This red hot iron is hammered carefully by the smith into desired shape of a weapon. This new hot weapon is dipped into water or oil to harden the metal. This hardened metal doesn’t bend although it might break at certain points if too much pressure is applied.
Daniel 3:19 NASBS
Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with wrath, and his facial expression was altered toward Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. He answered by giving orders to heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
The trouble
The three friends of Daniel, namely Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego disobeyed the kings order to bow down to the golden image as it was not correct for the Jews to indulge in idol worship.
Daniel 3:21 NASBS
Then these men were tied up in their trousers, their coats, their caps and their other clothes, and were cast into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire.
Punishment
As punishment these three young men were cast into the furnace.
Daniel 3:24-25 NASBS
Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astounded and stood up in haste; he said to his high officials, “Was it not three men we cast bound into the midst of the fire?” They replied to the king, “Certainly, O king.” [25] He said, “Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!”
The rescue
God of these men intervened on their behalf. He sent a supernatural person to prevent the scoring heat to damage his servants. It is believed that that person was Jesus Christ himself. He saved them. They were transformed as though into a sharp faithful guys.
1 Peter 1:7 NASBS
so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Tested faith
God also tests the genuineness of our faith by allowing the fiery tests.
Furnace experience
What is your experience today? Are you going through a furnace kind of situations? Are you feeling the heat of your trial and test? The fire was never meant for the destruction of the metal, it was meant for the transformation and hardening process. God allows certain difficult situations not to break us but to make us. A bitter experience may eventually make us more bitter or better.
Response
So how do you respond to your circumstances? You have a choice. Trust God to harden you. Decide to persevere through this process. You will come out different.
