Knock! knock!πͺ
This is exactly what we do to get the attention of the members of a household. Some open the door immediately whereas some will require little more time. Some don’t wish to open at all. The most common reason for door not opening is that no one is at home!π
Teaching
Jesus Christ taught His disciples to keep knocking till the door is opened.
Matthew 7:8 NASBS
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
He said this in the context of praying. He emphasized the importance of persistence in prayers. Often we have very limited patience and we give up praying quickly because we haven’t got the expected answer or delay in reply from God.
Practical
Jesus Christ himself practiced this knocking.
Revelation 3:20 NASBS
Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.
Jesus at the door
Can you imagine Jesus Christ standing at the door and knocking!π² I picture Jesus Christ standing outside at the door of this church in Laodicea. Actually Jesus Christ didn’t need open door to enter but he doesn’t force himself. I feel because of various unholy activities in the church, Lord Jesus Christ moved from inside to the outside.
Church without Christ
The church was in a sad state of affairs. The people thought that the Lord was in the church but the Lord Jesus was knocking at the door requesting them to open the door. He was asking them if someone could hear his voice and open the door for Him. This is beyond my imagination.
Hosting dinner
I hope someone might have heard His voice and opened the door. That person must have had the privilege to host a dinner for Lord Jesus Christ himself. Today the Lord Jesus Christ might not appear in person but he may send someone needy to our home to test us.
Host of house
Lord Jesus Christ is an unseen host of every home. May the Lord Jesus Christ help us that He may never leave our homes. He may continue to remain as the host of our homes. May his presence fill out hearts and our homes forever.
May the Lord’s presence continue to be with us always.
God bless you dear friends.

I love the way you put this. This is beyond my imagination too. Jesus outside of the church, out of his own home, knocking to come in. Thank you, for this vivid and powerful illustration. May Jesus not stop knocking and may He magnify the sound that we all may hear and open the door.
Lots of love,
L
