Upsetting parents
Some children and youth are extremely upset with their parents and want to run away from them. I was doing a research for this article and I stumbled across shocking facts. π±
Thinking of running away
There are dozens of websitesπΈοΈ which actually give wrong guidance on how to runπ away from home. Some sites have instructions accompanied by pictures.π° How ridiculous!π‘
Stats
The following statistics will give you some idea about the seriousness of this issue:
“One in seven young people between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away.
Youth age 12 to 17 are more at risk of homelessness than adults. 75 percent of runaways are female” (source) (π±οΈclick here to visit the website)
Reasons for running
The commonest reasons for running away from home are family and economic problems. The physical, sexual abuse could be a strong driving force. Substance abuse and parental neglect are associated with children running away.
Consequences of running
The consequences of such drastic steps make these kids are vulnerable to physical and sexual assaults. They may become homeless and might be forced into prostitution. These kids eventually die early as compared to their counterparts who are living in the comfort of their homes.
Real story
Many years ago a young boy offended his father’s friend. This young boy was humiliated repeatedly by this so called friend. One day this boy retaliated this humiliation. The friend of his father got offended and his son slapped this boy in the face. The boy was totally shaken up with the unprecedented developments. Fearing that his father won’t forgive him, he decided to run away from his father. He boarded a bus going to another town. He decided to go to his mentor’s place. His mentor was quite upset with this boy. He immediately informed his parents about this event. He counseled him and sent him back to his home. This boy knew very little that his parents and siblings got worried about him. They searched him everywhere. They were very happy to receive their lost son. Would you like to meet that foolish boy? That boy is none other than myself, I am that boy.βΉοΈ
Psalm 139:7 NASBS
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
Thankful to God
After many years I realised that if I had not come back home, I would have missed so many things. I wouldn’t have completed my graduation. I don’t know what would have been my situation. I am so thankful to my God for taking care of this foolishness of mine.
Couldn’t escape
As the psalmist said, it was indeed true that I could run away from my father but I couldn’t escape from my God. His spirit was always with me and was guiding me. He directed my paths to my mentor who helped me to get back to my own family.
Thankful to mentor
I am grateful to my Christian mentor who didn’t misguide me. He was true man of God. He sent me home. He made sure that I don’t face any lashes when I get back home.
Thankful to my parents
I am very grateful to my parents, brothers and relatives and friends. They all forgave me and embraced me back. They welcome me back. Nobody accused or scolded me. Today I experience complete healing from those memories. I could forgive that friend of my father. I could forgive his son who slapped me in my face.
Thanks for listening.

it’s a beautiful piece! People need guts to reveal their own story. I am glad that you realized it on time and came back. We cannot escape from anything, if we try to do so it keeps on haunting it on, either way, no one is seldom pure on this earth, we should always be thankful to the god that they have made parents and gifted us, beautiful parents, to look after us to care for us. Think of the people who don’t have anyone besides their side. Whatever be the situation parents are the one who will forgive us, they forgive and forget any of our silly as well as the bigger mistake. That’s why they are parents. But, dually we should not take them for granted. We should share with them and ask for their guidance. There is always a solution.
I remembered one incident from past experience I did a big blunder and thought for a very serious step to take, but because of fear, intolerance, and disturbance I told my parents that I am guilty I did so far and I assure u that I won’t be repeating again. That day I could not stop my tears, my parents hugged me and said the same which I have mentioned above.
“Running is for a coward. Strong people only chase”. π π π

That’s a great story. Having a forgiving God is the best of all. Yeah, children run away but I believe that if from the beginning they are given good guidance and parenting, it’s the best.

3 or 4 times – all in the same year, with 2 siblings. They both returned/were found quickly, but it was a very stressful experience.
