Temptations
As a normal human being we face all kinds of temptations. One temptation is so subtle that the victim doesn’t even realise that he is slipping away. When he realises at that time it is too late.
Backsliding
That temptation is spiritual backsliding. The person who is affected by this, drifts away slowly and gradually from his or her commitment. I am referring to the commitment made to the Lord.
Isaiah 53:6 NASBS
All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
Gone Astray
In the above scripture quote, the human nature is compared to sheep. Sheep without a shepherd can go astray very easily. Similarly, we can go astray without our shepherd.
Today’s topic is derived from the following Bible quote. Please read.
Hebrews 10:38 NASBS
But MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
Displeasure
God expressed his displeasure over the retrieval of his own followers. God said that any soul who made a decision to follow him and later on changes his mind. God has no pleasure in such a person. Which means that God is unhappy with this person.
Caution
So we have to be very cautious that none of us become like those who shrunk back. May God grant us stability in our spiritual journey. Let us continually follow our loving shepherd so that we do not go astray.
